The eightth edition of Chennai International Film Festival witnessed the who's who of Kollywood at its star-studded inaugural ceremony recently. The nine day extravaganza, came to an end yesterday. Almost 125 films from 43 countries were screened at the festival this year. For the first time, 12 Tamil films were screened along with 14 other Indian films as part of the Indian panorama. The festival was jointly organized by The Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF), Film Federation of India and South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce.
On Thursday, Vasanthabalan's Angadi Theru was selected as the best film while Sargunam's Kalavani was the runner up. Prabhu Solomon was adjudged as the best director for Mynaa, while R. Parthiban won the jury award for Aayirathil Oruvan. Orr Iravu, directed by Hari Shankar, Harish Narayan and Krishnashekar, got a special award. Balu Mahendra, K. Bhagyaraj, Aparna Sen, Napoleon, Charu Haasan and S.Ve. Shekar graced the occasion.
