Akshay to go international with Karate tournament

Akshay to go international with Karate tournament

Last year, when Akshay Kumar introduced his National Karate Tournament, it met with an overwhelming response. This year too the entries have been pouring in from all over. The overload has been so unexpected that the organisers are apparently flooded with contestants.
Thanks to such unprecedented response and taking into consideration the fact that last year's tournament winners went on to win a silver and three bronze medals at the Japan Karate tournament, Akshay has now decided on expanding.
Akshay, who is well pleased with the response, has since decided to take the tournament to the next level by inviting participants from across the seven seas thus providing a bigger field of techniques. For this aspect, logistically the organizers are planning on getting international talent from the US and other European countries as well as from most South Asian countries to participate in the tournament.
Whatever be the case, with Akshay's international project Breakaway already on the anvil, this tournament just adds another feather in his already impressive hat.

Prabhu Deva-Ramlath file mutual divorce petition

In the midst of rumours that Prabhu Deva and Nayantara are likely to tie the knot soon, Prabhu Deva and his wife Latha aka Ramalath have finally filed a petition seeking mutual divorce before a Family Court. Prabhu Deva and Ramlath filed a petition submitting that all efforts taken by mediators and elders in their families failed to find a solution and they have agreed for divorce by mutual consent. Ramlath also withdrew her earlier petitions pending before the court.
The judge adjourned the matter for further hearing.
Earlier, Ramlath approached the Chennai Family Court pleading for restitution of conjugal rights after Prabhu Deva admitted his affair and forthcoming marriage with Nayantara. In her petition, Ramalath had accused Prabhu Deva of not taking care of domestic responsibilities and not paying money to run the household expenses after he allegedly fell in love with Nayantara.
Prabhu Deva and Ramlath were married on September 8, 1995 and had three sons. One of their sons passed away due to cancer.

The Tourist - Movie Review

 The Tourist - Movie Review

Danger, intrigue, suspense, romance - all characteristics you'd expect of cops and robbers mystery starring two of Hollywood's hottest heartthrobs, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. But there is no urgency, no smoldering passion and no excitement in The Tourist. While it might not come as a surprise that a movie with a paper-thin plot and boasting a cast led by two Hollywood stars is a flop, The Tourist's greatest disappointment is that it comes from the director who gave us 2006's outstanding The Lives of Others, and it bares no resemblance to that award-winning thriller.
When Frank (Johnny Depp), an American tourist, meets the mysterious and forward Elise (Angelina Jolie) on a train, he gets caught between Interpol and a British gangster, who are all after Alexander Pierce, a crafty financial criminal. But Strangers on a Train this is not. Elise somehow cons the police into thinking Frank is the sought-after Pierce, while Frank goes along with whatever Elise demands. It's the kind of nonsense that your suspension of disbelief is supposed to forgive, but gap between what we'll go along with and what we'll laugh at is far too great.
The problem stems from nearly every aspect of the film. First and foremost, Depp and Jolie have absolutely no chemistry. Both sleepwalk through the movie, which moves at a snails pace. Writer/director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck gives us morsels of character backstory - Frank's wife died in a car accident, Elise fell in love with her undercover mark - but none of the pieces add up to a full, dynamic character. Frank doesn't carry any baggage because of his loss and Jolie's portrayal of Elise is so emotionless that it doesn't matter who she loves. She's just goes through the plot points one-by-one until the end credits roll.
The other half of the romance/mystery plot also has major problems. The Lives of Others wasn't known for any bombastic, exciting moments; most of the film was understated suspense worrying about characters we cared about. Since we don't care about either of the characters in The Tourist, none of the action set pieces carry any weight. It also doesn't help that these scenes are edited without any sense of urgency. Shots last several beats too long and there are gaps in the action, like when Frank jumps through a market awning and somehow pushes a cop into the water from several feet away. There's also a boring boat chase that apparently takes place in a "no wake" zone.
Let's not forget the scene with Depp and Jolie dancing like motorized mannequins, Octopussy's villain (Steve Berkoff) showing up to move the plot forward and Timothy Dalton, as Chief Inspector Jones, chasing Inspector John Acheson (Paul Bettany) as he scratches his head and asks, "Is that Pierce?" The answer is always, "We don't care." By the time Pierce reveals himself, we're already putting our coats on. The Tourist offers us nothing in the way of entertainment. It's an exercise in the Hollywood equation of putting the names of two high-profile stars above the title and hoping that audiences show up for the snoozefest.

Katrina Kaif
KATRINA KAIF

The famous Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif says she got her inspiration from pop icon Shakira for her sizzling item song ‘Shiela Ki Jawani’ for her latest film Tees Maar Khan.
The reporters pestered with questions about her resemblance to pop icon Shakira, and she politely said that she can only dream of comparisons. She says, “I can only dream of such comparisons. To be very frank, I drew inspiration from her. If my dance in the song ‘Shiela Ki Jawani’ reminds the viewers of Shakira, it is a huge reward for me.” She is currently in Kolkatta promoting Tees Maar Khan.
She is praising director Farah Khan and gave her all the credit for the huge success of this song. She added, “We have worked hard for this song. But the credit goes to Farah Khan and her conceptualization of the song. She is a brilliant choreographer.”
Tees Maar Khan is directed by Farah Khan and is set to release on December 24. It is already hitting the headlines for this new item song ‘Shiela Ki Jawani’, which features Katrina.
When asked Katrina about her role in the movie she says, “My role is of an aspiring actress, she is not very aggressive as it looked in the song. She is very naïve and sweet. She is the girlfriend of Akshay in this film. She gets herself into trouble because of her own stupidity. Its’ a fun character.”
This complete movie revolves around Tarbez Mirza Khan, who is a criminal played by Akshay Kumar. His girlfriend Anya played by Katrina gets a new job of robbing antiques worth Rs. 500 crore from a huge guarded environment. This film is an action comedy.

I will never give up acting for anyone, anything: Vidya Balan

Vidya-Balan

Vidya-Balan
Marriage may or may not fit in the next five years, but Vidya is not going to give up acting for anyone or anything and she also thinks that life has been good ever since she has turned 30.
She says, “Acting is a part of who I am. I don’t think I will ever give it up. But having said that, if it does come naturally to me and I do feel like taking it slow at some point of time, then maybe I will. But this will never be a pre-condition to get into any relationship.”
Vidya Balan will be seen soon in her latest movie No One Killed Jessica, which is based on the Jessica Lal murder case. Vidya is happy about the fact the women are not giving up their careers for their personal lives anymore.
“I think women should work at every age. It is fantastic! And this is happening in every profession. I recently met a girl at a store who got back to work just after two months of delivering a child, this is known as dedication. But yes, in our profession in the earlier days, the instant you get married, you are ceased to be an object of desire, which is why most of the actresses have retired. Today, no longer! I guess this is all got to do with the fact and attitude that today if someone is with someone, it will never stop you from desiring them!”
This critically acclaimed actress, who has featured in movies like Parineeta, Guru, Ishqiya and Paa is rolling high these days. Neither her performances nor her dressing sense are being criticized. However, she admits that she has turned careful and fussy.
“I guess over a period of time, I think rightfully so, I have got the courage to do only what I want to do. I will never get pressurized to do anything, which I don’t want to do, even if it is a right film, or a kind of film that one should be doing. It has to excite me and challenge me. It can be a super simple film, it can be a completely mad role or it can be intense….it can be anything across this wide spectrum….but I have to feel excited,” she said.
This has also been her mantra when it comes to dressing up, especially since the time she become the favorite child of our fashion police. Now one will see her wearing only designer wears by Sabyasachi Mukherjee. She has got this new elegant look, which steals the focus wherever she goes.
“I will always stick to what makes me feel good. If I feel that I am looking good in something, then I will surely wear it. And if it is not, then even if it is the most beautiful crafted creation, I will not. This is the only criteria I use when I am wearing anything these days and I think this has worked for me,” says Vidya.
Let’s see how does Vidya manage to look in her new de-glam role in No One Killed Jessica.

Ban Munni Sheila Songs Petition Filed In Allahabad High Court

Ban Munni Sheila Songs Petition Filed In Allahabad High Court

Katrina & Malaika's Item Songs
Bollywood News: A woman today filed a PIL in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court today as on 23rd Dec, 2010 seeking an immediate ban on Bollywood item numbers “Munni Badnam Hui” and “Sheila Ki Jawani” alleging the songs were “against “decency and morality.
As an interim relief, the petitioner requested the court to order a halt to the release of Hindi film ‘Tees Maar Khan’ as long as the song ‘Sheila Ki Jawaani’ is not removed from the film.
In her PIL, which will come up for hearing after the winter vacation, the petitioner Nutan Thakur through her counsel Ashok Pandey has sought an order to immediately stop the public exhibition of these two songs as they have a bad impact on the society.
Producers of upcoming flick ‘Tees Maar Khan’ Twinkle Khanna, Shirish Kunder and Ronnie Screwvala, its producer Farah Khan, producers of ‘Dabangg’ Arbaaz Khan, Malaika Arora Khan and Dhillin Mehta, its director Abhinav Kashyap, Censor Board and Union of India through the Secretary of Information and Broadcasting have been made respondents in the PIL.
The petitioner has alleged that in the movie ‘Dabangg’, which has “Munni Badnaam Hui” and ‘Tees Maar Khan’, as in almost all other Hindi films and films in other languages, many indecent, immoral and vulgar songs, dialogues and visual representations, were being disseminated to general public through the means of channels of mass media before the issue of certificate under the law of the land.
“This is completely against sections Cinematography Act 1952 because in many cases such songs, dances, scenes, dialogues do not get certificate later on but by that time they have been publicly exhibited to a very large extent,” she said.
The petitioner requested the court to direct the Censor Board and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to intervene and issue directives to the film-makers in all the languages and all other concerned bodies not to display anything (including songs, dances, dialogues, audio inputs, sequences, prommos or other such materials of the film) before the required certificate is issued to the films.
Thakur also argued that in ‘Munni Badnam Hui and ‘Sheila Ki Jawaani’, there is the specific problem of use of such songs which are against decency, morality and public order and which can incite commitment of offences.
“Such unfortunate events have already started taking place where helpless and poor girls studying in schools and colleges, working women in all kinds of establishments, institutions and organizations and even housewives are being teased, molested and sarcastically treated, more so when the name of the women/girls is Sheila/ Sheela/ Munni/ Muniya and other similar sounding ones,” she said.
The petitioner also sought a court directive to stop the screening and public exhibition of ‘Dabangg’ as long as the song ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’ is not deleted from the film.

The movie is yet to be titled and deals with a subject of a man facing the hurdles of the government and the consequences of his past deeds. As expected Abhishek bachchan will have a flash back story in the movie and will be acting in an emotional subject. The subject demands an actress, who has a good potential to essays a female protagonist role and so Priyanka Chopra’s name is being mentioned for this project.

Akshay Kumar's maternal grandmother passed away on Friday.

But the actor did not take the day off as expected but fulfilled his duties at the funeral and also delivered on work commitments made for upcoming film Tees Maar Khan the next day.

Farah confirms, "Akshay went with his naani's ashes to Nashik on Saturday early morning, then headed to the rehearsals for the Zee Awards at the Bandra-Kurla complex. He had to rehearse as he was performing a special sequence."

That wasn't all. After that, the actor went on to complete the last day dubbing for TMK in Andheri. Farah adds, "After the dubbing, he went to his naani's prayer meet at a gurdwara in Andheri.

Akshay knew he had to be at the TMK beach event in Juhu at 5.30, so donning a helmet he rode on his bike all the way as he didn't want to get caught in traffic and wanted to be present at the event on time.

What shocked me was that he came at all! He was very close to his naani who lived with them and I didn't expect him to come."

FK was obviously surprised then, to receive a call from Akki's secretary on Saturday morning, telling her that Akshay would fulfill all his commitments. "Most stars come up with the weirdest excuses asking to postpone or cancel shoots. But he had a valid excuse to cancel, didn't."

Says a source close to the actor, "He always adheres to his dad's words: 'No matter what happens to any of us, the show must always go on.' That's what he has always done and what he will always do. Unable to keep his grief bottled up any more at his beloved naani's death, Akshay broke down at her prayer meeting on Saturday."
